Bill Merchant is a native of Galveston, Texas and grew up in Bryan, Texas. A graduate of Bryan High School, Bill went on to attend Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelors degree in Political Science. Before entering law school, Bill spent several years in the electrical generation business as a plant operations specialist. Bill was involved in the start-up and operations of power plants constructed and operated by the Texas Municipal Power Agency and by Texas-New Mexico Power Company. After a career in the power-generation industry, Bill attended and graduated from Baylor University Law School. While at Baylor, Bill served as a teaching assistant to Professor William Underwood in the prestigious Practice Court program. After law school, Bill accepted a position with the Waco firm of Haley & Davis, P.C., where he gained extensive experience in the area of civil litigation focusing on medical malpractice defense, local government litigation and personal injury trial law. Bill is married to the former Rebecca Herrera and has two children, Miles and Alexis. He and his family are active members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where Bill teaches in the Youth Sunday School Department.
